AFTERLIFE™ is an initiative introduced by Sports for Hope Foundation in Hong Kong to raise the awareness of sustainability through various sports game. To engage viewers with this new charitable effort, we aim to create a powerful film that not only captures the information but also sheds light to the purpose and vision behind AFTERLIFE.
We tackle this by thinking about recycling in a philosophical way. The aim is to stimulate not only thinking of the actions and results of recycling, but also a certain appreciation of the tennis balls themselves.
Therefore, we decided to explore the idea of transfer of energy, of how energy is transferred from racket to ball and creates almost a life within the ball in the same fashion that the tennis game captures the audience's attention.
Relying on raw and expressive hand-drawn animation, and coupled with a powerful rhythmic soundscape, we strive to capture viewers attention and make them emotionally involved in the message conveyed.
Lastly, by avoiding voice-over completely, the film was also able to function across installations around Hong Kong, with the film playing silently on loop.
