Huawei Spark x ReverseAds

Brief
The Huawei Spark programme aims to assist start-ups across Asia in scaling up. We were tasked with creating short documentaries exploring the stories of three start-ups, with the goal of elevating Spark's visibility to consumers, entrepreneurs, and policy-makers.

In late 2021, ReverseAds won the Huawei Spark Ignite competition in Singapore. After the win, ReverseAds secured US$4.2 million for their Series A funding.

Strategy
Our goal with this film series was not just to appeal to a narrow B2B audience, but instead to tell a story that would generate genuine interest amongst a diverse audience. With this in mind, we chose to craft stories which focused on the human stories behind these start-ups - exploring the personal stories of the founders and their journeys. In the case of our second film about ReverseAds, we were assigned to shoot a Thailand based company which offeres a predictive advertising product that avoids tracking end users. In order to showcase the company's endeavour to disrupt the monopolized digital advertising field, we chose to draw on the natural beauty of Thailand and the founder's personal life to craft a powerful human story, capturing the chivalous spirit of the company and the founder himself. Filmed in Singapore and Phuket, we combined planning and spontaneity--we shot according to a scene-by-scene treatment, but also fortuitously captured the precious moment where ReverseAds won the Spark award, making the film not only just a commerical documentary, but also a visual memoir that holds values in itself.
